Following its 2010 acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Oracle launched Java Magazine, a bimonthly digital magazine covering the Java technology. I handle the developmental editing and project management for the magazine’s two Java in Action feature articles, which showcase companies and individuals using Java-based solutions in innovative ways. This role involves working closely with Java Magazine‘s contributing writers, as I did with writer David Baum on the “Java in Robotics” article that appears in the current issue.

I’m a member of the board of directors at Marin County’s O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, a nonprofit supporting the visual, performing, and literary arts whose roots date back to an artists’ collective created by center founders Ann and Dick O’Hanlon in the 1950s and ’60s. From 2002 to 2011, I served as managing editor of the Oracle OpenWorld Daily, an award-winning newspaper published at Silicon Valley–based Oracle Corporation’s annual trade show at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. For much of 2012, I worked with Georgetown University’s Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation, a group focused on helping Head Start programs build a strong mental health foundation for their children, families, and staff. My role involved editing and adapting online and print publications intended to educate and support parents, teachers, and administrators at Head Start centers nationwide. These included an administrator’s guide, informational booklets for Head Start parents, and infant-toddler temperament tools.
