editorial director: Sonoma

March 8, 2017 by blaircampbell

From October 2016 through August 2019, I served as first managing editor and then editorial director of Sonoma magazine, a bimonthly magazine covering Sonoma County. I created the magazine’s content lineup, assigned and edited all articles, managed the editorial and production schedules, and collaborated closely with our creative director on design. For our March/April 2017 issue, we marked the end of California’s drought—thanks to the wettest winter in two decades—with a cover story on where to see the county’s most stunning waterfalls. Another feature visited a […]

editor in chief: Sonoma Weddings

January 13, 2016 by blaircampbell

From 2015-2017, I was the editor in chief of that magazine’s sister publication, Sonoma Weddings. For the 2015/2016 issue of the magazine, we celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision legalizing gay marriage across the country by representing a same-sex couple on our cover—a gorgeous image that garnered more than 250,000 Facebook views and more than 3,000 likes and shares. Our cover models also romped around Beauty Ranch, Jack London’s 1,400-acre ranch (now a state park) in Glen Ellen, for a gown feature that paid homage […]

deputy editor: Profit

January 12, 2016 by blaircampbell

From the spring of 2015 through summer 2019, I was the deputy editor of Profit, a quarterly business magazine (circulation 110,000) published by Oracle that’s geared toward senior executives at Oracle customer companies. Working closely with the magazine’s editor in chief, I helped conceive our content lineup and handle developmental editing and project management for all Profit articles. I frequently collaborated with Oracle customers, freelance writers, fellow editors, and design staff to create compelling case studies and thought leadership content. Prior to becoming an editor […]

blogger: The Home Glass

January 1, 2015 by blaircampbell

My wine blog, The Home Glass, originally appeared on Marin Magazine’s website, where I covered local Bay Area wine news as well as more general wine-related topics, with an emphasis on tasting and price. In late 2015 I relaunched the blog with a more personal focus. Why call it “The Home Glass”? Here’s my explanation, from a post called “Rooting for the Home Glass”: When I recently wrote a cover story on wine and pregnancy for a local newspaper, I got lots of feedback—equal […]

columnist: Wineau

December 31, 2014 by blaircampbell

My biweekly column on value wines, Wineau, appeared in the East Bay Express and the Monterey County Weekly from 2006 to 2010. Wineau was named Best Newspaper Food Column in the Association of Food Journalists’ 2007 national awards competition. Based on the column, I was also awarded two fellowships (consecutive years) to the annual Symposium of Professional Wine Writers at Meadowood Napa Valley, as well as media scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America’s Rudd Center for Professional Wine Studies. Here’s an excerpt […]

writer: Confessions of a Pregnant Wine Writer

December 30, 2014 by blaircampbell

As a wine writer married to a winemaker, the issue of alcohol consumption during pregnancy loomed large in my life during my own pregnancy in 2009. My September 2010 East Bay Express cover story, “Confessions of a Pregnant Wine Writer,” gave an account of my experience down that particular rabbit hole. An excerpt: Now, granted, I’m not a big troller of online forums on any subject, but I was shocked by the volume of information available on alcohol consumption during pregnancy. And by information, I […]

senior editor: On the Page

December 6, 2014 by blaircampbell

From 2004 through 2008, I was a senior editor for On the Page, a San Francisco–based literary magazine featuring fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and photography. In this role, I wrote essays and film and book reviews for each issue and represented the magazine as a reader at Litquake. I also recruited and worked with contributors, edited submissions, and helped manage production, distribution, and promotional events. On the Page‘s Faith, Luck, & Chance, Unfinished Business, and Shared Spaces issues are all available online. Here’s an excerpt from a […]

writer & content strategist: runScribe

December 5, 2014 by blaircampbell

runScribe is a wearable fitness tool for runners created by ScribeLabs, a technology collective based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Colorado. While runScribe was still in development, ScribeLabs’s founders needed some brochure-style copy that would explain their new product—copy that would be shared both in a press packet and on a new website being developed by Good Dog Design. Since the launch of its new site, ScribeLabs has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal and other high-profile publications, and the story we told also helped […]

writer: Slow Medicine

December 3, 2014 by blaircampbell

For Marin Magazine‘s September 2013 issue, I wrote a feature entitled “Slow Medicine: Learning to Listen to the Voices of Patients and Families.” This feature explored a burgeoning healthcare movement in which greater emphasis is put on helping patients truly understand their diagnoses and treatment options. Central to the article was my interview with Katy Butler, whose recent critically acclaimed book Knocking on Heaven’s Door looks at slow medicine from both a journalistic and personal perspective. During the months that I worked […]
