editorial director: Sonoma

March 8, 2017 by blaircampbell

From October 2016 through August 2019, I served as first managing editor and then editorial director of Sonoma magazine, a bimonthly magazine covering Sonoma County. I created the magazine’s content lineup, assigned and edited all articles, managed the editorial and production schedules, and collaborated closely with our creative director on design. For our March/April 2017 issue, we marked the end of California’s drought—thanks to the wettest winter in two decades—with a cover story on where to see the county’s most stunning waterfalls. Another feature visited a […]

editor in chief: Sonoma Weddings

January 13, 2016 by blaircampbell

From 2015-2017, I was the editor in chief of that magazine’s sister publication, Sonoma Weddings. For the 2015/2016 issue of the magazine, we celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision legalizing gay marriage across the country by representing a same-sex couple on our cover—a gorgeous image that garnered more than 250,000 Facebook views and more than 3,000 likes and shares. Our cover models also romped around Beauty Ranch, Jack London’s 1,400-acre ranch (now a state park) in Glen Ellen, for a gown feature that paid homage […]

blogger: The Home Glass

January 1, 2015 by blaircampbell

My wine blog, The Home Glass, originally appeared on Marin Magazine’s website, where I covered local Bay Area wine news as well as more general wine-related topics, with an emphasis on tasting and price. In late 2015 I relaunched the blog with a more personal focus. Why call it “The Home Glass”? Here’s my explanation, from a post called “Rooting for the Home Glass”: When I recently wrote a cover story on wine and pregnancy for a local newspaper, I got lots of feedback—equal […]

columnist: Wineau

December 31, 2014 by blaircampbell

My biweekly column on value wines, Wineau, appeared in the East Bay Express and the Monterey County Weekly from 2006 to 2010. Wineau was named Best Newspaper Food Column in the Association of Food Journalists’ 2007 national awards competition. Based on the column, I was also awarded two fellowships (consecutive years) to the annual Symposium of Professional Wine Writers at Meadowood Napa Valley, as well as media scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America’s Rudd Center for Professional Wine Studies. Here’s an excerpt […]

writer: Confessions of a Pregnant Wine Writer

December 30, 2014 by blaircampbell

As a wine writer married to a winemaker, the issue of alcohol consumption during pregnancy loomed large in my life during my own pregnancy in 2009. My September 2010 East Bay Express cover story, “Confessions of a Pregnant Wine Writer,” gave an account of my experience down that particular rabbit hole. An excerpt: Now, granted, I’m not a big troller of online forums on any subject, but I was shocked by the volume of information available on alcohol consumption during pregnancy. And by information, I […]
